Russia Warns Against Deployment of Western Troops in Ukraine

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova issued a stern warning on Wednesday regarding the potential deployment of Western troops to Ukraine, stating that such a move could lead to a direct clash between nuclear powers.

Her comments came during a press briefing in Moscow, where she addressed a recent call by French Defense Minister Sébastien Lecornu for discussions on deploying non-nuclear “deterrence forces” in Ukraine. Zakharova cautioned that the ramifications of this idea would be dire and could result in catastrophic consequences.

Zakharova emphasized that Lecornu is not alone in advocating for the deployment of foreign troops, suggesting that many in the West are entertaining this dangerous notion. She reiterated that the practical implementation of such a plan would escalate tensions significantly, potentially triggering a confrontation between nuclear-armed nations.

Her remarks followed Lecornu’s comments on Monday regarding Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s proposal to deploy NATO troops in Ukraine, indicating a willingness among Western allies to explore this controversial option
