Russia Vows Retaliation After Poland Shuts Consulate Over Sabotage Allegations

Russia on Monday promised to respond after Poland revoked the operating license of the Russian Consulate General in Krakow, following accusations that Russian intelligence orchestrated an arson attack on a Warsaw shopping center. Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski announced the decision, citing “evidence” of Russian involvement in the May 11 fire on Marywilska Street.

Polish authorities described the incident as an act of sabotage linked to Russian operatives. In response, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova condemned the move, accusing Warsaw of “deliberately destroying relations” and promised that “an adequate response to these inadequate steps will follow soon.”

While Russia has yet to formally respond to the sabotage allegations, it denounced Poland’s actions as provocations that further escalate diplomatic tensions between the two countries.
