Russia hopes to see Visa and Mastercard return to the country, according to TASS. Anatoly Aksakov, chairman of the Financial Markets of the State Duma, emphasized that the two companies “lost a large market” by leaving.
Aksakov acknowledged the challenge of adjusting to the National Payment Card System (NSPK), which has become the primary alternative since Visa and Mastercard exited Russia following the escalation of the Ukraine war. Mir cards, operating through NSPK, have grown in prominence in the country.
