Russia Says U.S. Canceled Next Round of Diplomatic Consultations

MOSCOW – Russia announced Monday that the next scheduled round of diplomatic consultations between Moscow and Washington has been canceled at the initiative of the U.S. side.
In a written statement, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said the meeting—part of ongoing efforts to normalize the operations of both countries’ embassies—was called off by American negotiators. “We hope that the pause they took will not be too long,” she added, without offering further explanation.
The U.S. has yet to confirm or comment on the reported cancellation.
The diplomatic consultations were previously held in Istanbul on February 27 and April 10, focusing on restoring embassy functions and resolving bilateral obstacles. Last week, Russia’s Ambassador to the U.S., Alexander Darchiev, said a third round was expected to take place soon in Moscow, though he noted that the location remained under preliminary discussion.
