Russia Preparing Retaliatory Measures if EU Seizes State Assets, Zakharova Warns

Moscow is developing a set of retaliatory measures in response to the European Union’s potential decision to seize Russian state assets, Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova announced during a briefing.
“Any illegal actions regarding our state assets will certainly be met with a tough response. That is what our reaction will be, and the international community will also react,” Zakharova said. She added that preparations are already underway for countermeasures “in the event Russian assets are seized — that is, stolen.”
Zakharova accused the EU of resorting to all possible tools, including threats, blackmail, and fake news. She argued that the strategy pushed by what she described as the “Russia-hating wing” of the EU has descended into “political madness,” prioritizing efforts to harm Moscow above all else.
“No one in the EU is even trying to hide that there are no legal grounds for such steps,” she said. “It can’t be described as anything other than theft.”
