Russia Condemns EU’s Military Buildup Plan as War Incitement

The European Union’s recently approved military buildup plan is a deliberate provocation of war, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova warned on Wednesday. She accused the EU of accelerating arms production despite declining military effectiveness, calling it a historically recognized strategy for instigating conflict.

The plan, proposed by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, involves an 800-billion-euro rearmament initiative, with 150 billion euros in loans for EU states to procure weapons collectively. Funds will be directed toward air defense systems and arms for Ukraine, alongside an increase in defense spending to generate an additional 650 billion euros.

The EU summit officially approved the plan on March 7, aiming to establish independent European defense capabilities. However, financing details remain unresolved, raising concerns over its economic and geopolitical implications.
