Russia Accuses Ukraine of Targeting Energy Facility to Sabotage Peace Efforts

Ukraine’s latest attack on a Russian energy facility was intended to derail peace initiatives, including those proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated. She accused Kyiv of deliberately escalating tensions to obstruct diplomatic solutions.
According to Zakharova, Ukraine launched a drone strike on March 19 against an energy facility in the southern Russian settlement of Kavkazskaya. The attack caused a massive fire, engulfing 1,700 square meters of an oil storage site. She described the incident as a “pre-planned provocation” aimed at undermining ongoing peace efforts.
Zakharova further criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, accusing him of violating prior agreements and proving his “total inability to negotiate.” She emphasized that such actions demonstrate Kyiv’s unwillingness to engage in meaningful dialogue and de-escalation.
