Rubio Vows to Revoke Visas for Individuals Deemed Threats After Activist’s Arrest

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated Sunday that the US will continue revoking visas and green cards for individuals linked to Hamas, following the arrest of Mahmoud Khalil, an activist detained by federal immigration authorities. Speaking on CBS News’ Face the Nation, Rubio emphasized that individuals engaged in “pro-Hamas events” would not be allowed to remain in the country, reinforcing the Trump administration’s crackdown on such activities.

Khalil, a Columbia University graduate, was arrested by ICE agents on March 8 after an order from Rubio to revoke his student visa and green card, though no evidence was provided linking him to Hamas.

Rubio defended the decision, arguing that Khalil’s involvement in campus protests, which he characterized as vandalism and criminal behavior, justified his removal. He stated that had Khalil disclosed plans to become a movement leader during his visa application, he would not have been granted entry.

The administration has framed this move as part of a broader effort to curb perceived threats to national security, particularly in light of ongoing protests against Zionist military actions in Gaza, which have resulted in over 48,500 Palestinian deaths since October 2023.

President Donald Trump backed Khalil’s detention, calling it “the first of many to come” as his administration seeks to suppress opposition to US foreign policy. Rubio also linked the visa revocation efforts to a broader initiative targeting individuals tied to criminal organizations, such as the Venezuelan Tren de Aragua gang.

Rubio reiterated that the US would not tolerate individuals who pose threats to public safety or national security, asserting that the government’s stance on such matters is “that simple.”
