Rubio Expresses US Willingness to Engage with Moscow on Ukraine in Russia Day Message

WASHINGTON – US Secretary of State Marco Rubio extended congratulations to the Russian people on the occasion of Russia Day, while also expressing Washington’s continued interest in engaging constructively with Moscow toward resolving the conflict in Ukraine.

“On behalf of the American people, I want to congratulate the Russian people on Russia Day,” Rubio said in a statement released by the State Department. He emphasized that the United States “remains committed to supporting the Russian people as they continue to build on their aspirations for a brighter future.”

Rubio added that the United States seeks “constructive engagement with the Russian Federation to bring about a durable peace between Russia and Ukraine,” voicing hope that peace would open the way for “more mutually beneficial relations between our countries.”
