Serbia’s Prime Minister Djuro Macut affirmed on Tuesday that his visit to Algeria is aimed at reviving and strengthening the longstanding friendship relations binding the two countries with new perspectives.
Speaking to the press after being received by the President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune, at the headquarters of the Presidency of the Republic, Djuro Macut said he held talks with the President of the Republic on the traditional ties that have bound the two countries for decades, affirming that Algeria and Serbia “have been closely linked since Algeria’s independence.” He said the purpose of his visit is to “revive and strengthen the longstanding friendship ties with new perspectives,” adding that Serbia looks forward to “broad horizons” for bilateral cooperation.
In this regard, he said that the two countries signed “several bilateral agreements covering taxation, tourism and other areas currently being established as the beginning of a new phase in relations,” highlighting the “great potentials” for deeper bilateral cooperation across sectors including “telecommunications, military exchanges, education, scientific research, health, trade, agriculture and energy.” Macut expressed his conviction that the visit marks “a new beginning for an old friendship of many years that will soon flourish,” adding that both countries are now well-positioned “to follow up on joint projects and discuss the relations and new outcomes of bilateral cooperation, which will gain increasing momentum in the coming period.”
