Putin Proposes New Program to Equip CSTO Forces with Modern Russian Weapons

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a proposal to launch a comprehensive program to equip the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) forces with advanced Russian-made weapons. Speaking at the CSTO Summit in Bishkek, Putin emphasized that Russia will continue working closely with its allies to strengthen the organization’s overall defense capabilities.

Putin underlined that the CSTO plays a key role in ensuring security and stability across the Eurasian region, highlighting that collective mechanisms remain crucial in addressing regional and global challenges. He noted that enhancing the organization’s military preparedness, including its air forces, requires “special attention” in the coming years.

The Russian president also proposed initiating the preparation of a new CSTO counterterrorism strategy, stressing that updated approaches are needed to meet evolving threats. Additionally, he suggested hosting an international expert forum in 2026 dedicated to shaping an architecture of equal security. Putin confirmed that the next CSTO Summit will take place on November 11, 2026, in Moscow, with Russia’s presidency of the organization set to run under the motto “collective security in a multipolar world.”
