
ALGIERS – Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, elected for a second term in the September 7 presidential election, took the oath of office today, in an official ceremony at the Palace of Nations, Algiers, in the presence of the nation’s highest institutions.
The ceremony began by a recitation of a few verses of the Noble Qur’an and the reading, by the chairman of the Constitutional Court, Omar Belhadj, of a Council’s statement relating to the the following final results:
- Total number of registered voters within the country and abroad: 24,351,551
- Total number of voters who cast ballots: 11,226,065
- Overall turnout rate: 46.10%
- Void ballots: 1,764,637
- Valid votes cast: 9,461,428
- Absolute majority: 4,730,715
Votes obtained by each candidate in descending order:
- Tebboune Abdelmadjid received 7,976,291 votes, i.e. 84.30%
- Hassani Cherif Abdelaali received 904,642 votes, i.e. 9.56%
- Aouchiche Youcef received 580,495 votes, i.e. 6.14%
Considering that candidate Abdelmadjid Tebboune obtained the absolute majority of the votes cast by the electors.
First President of the Supreme Court Tahar Mamouni articulated the oath and President took the oath by repeating it verbatim, with his right hand on the Noble Qur’an.
In the end of the swearing-in, Tahar Mamouni stated: “In my capacity as the first president of the Supreme Court, I attest to the fact that the president of the Republic has taken the oath of office.”
In accordance with Article 89 of the Constitution, “the president of the Republic shall take the oath of office before the people, in the presence of the high institutions of the nation, in the week following his election. He shall take office immediately after his swearing-in.”
