President Tebboune: State Resolute in Continuing Reforms, Implementing Development Programs

The Algerian President, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, affirmed Tuesday in Algiers the State’s determination to continue reforms and implement development programs, underscoring that Algeria has achieved milestones across various fields that “only the willfully blind would deny.” In a speech to the Nation delivered before both Houses of Parliament at the Palace of Nations (Club des Pins), the President expressed his conviction that “reforms are an ongoing process to establish governance for the people and by the people,” adding: “We will continue implementing sustainable development programs.”

On this occasion, President Tebboune commended Parliament’s dynamism, which has enabled it to “assert the powers of the legislative branch by exercising its right to initiate legislation, including the nationality law and the law criminalizing colonialism.” He further affirmed that the national dialogue he previously announced will be responsive to “all requests from political parties.” Regarding the foundations of the rule of law, the President emphasized that “justice will crack down on corruption and dysfunction in all its forms while protecting all honest officials.”

On the economic front, President Tebboune highlighted key positive indicators, noting an “unprecedented investment momentum.” He cited the participation of foreign investors in 309 projects as definitive proof against “claims that Algeria is isolated.” He also noted the success in reducing the inflation rate, calling it “further evidence for those who claim we are headed in the wrong direction.” “The situation of Algeria’s economy is good, and this is not the achievement of the President alone, but of the Nation’s officials and workers,” he stated, adding that “anyone who does not acknowledge Algeria’s achievements is both ungrateful and envious.” The President of the Republic pointed to accomplishments in the railway sector as “evidence that when Algerians are determined, they work miracles.” He expressed pride that the national production policy has begun generating substantial activity following a period of industrial decline caused by “an unhealthy dependence on imports.”

In this regard, he noted that industry’s contribution to the gross domestic product (GDP) has climbed back to around 10%, after previously being “deliberately reduced to 3%.” He also highlighted that Algeria has achieved “over 80% self-sufficiency in pharmaceuticals.” Furthermore, he praised startup entrepreneurs for “bringing honor to the country abroad,” noting that 13,000 startups are now registered in Algeria. He specifically mentioned the Gara Djebilet mine project, which has become a reality as “the world’s third-largest iron mine,” and the Bled El Hadba phosphate project, where production capacity is expected to increase fivefold.

Regarding agriculture, the President noted that farmers have established 15,000 enterprises and are integrating modern technology into the sector. However, despite these “major successes,” he noted a “failure in meat production” that “raises serious questions,” calling on stakeholders to show greater dedication to reduce the import bill.

Finally, on healthcare, President Tebboune applauded positive indicators such as “rising life expectancy” and the successful eradication of various diseases. He pointed out that Algeria’s routine vaccination programs are “exceptional compared to many other countries,” a fact often overlooked by citizens.
