President Tebboune Orders Construction of Desalination Plants in Tamanrasset, Tindouf

The Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune ordered, during the meeting of the Council of ministers he chaired on Tuesday, to launch the construction works of two water desalination plants in Tamanrasset and Tindouf by next month.
On water infrastructure, the Algerian President instructed the sector’ minister “to launch the construction works of both water desalination plants in Tamanrasset and Tindouf within the next month, in order to serve the populations of these two provinces, stressing that these two projects are strategic for the residents of our Great South,” according to the source.
The President of the Republic also ordered the construction of a new wastewater treatment plant in Tindouf, particularly to support promising agricultural projects.
He also instructed the sector’s minister to strengthen “safety, monitoring and precautionary measures during water release operations from dams that have reached full capacity.” He further stressed the need “to give top priority to adhering to national drinking water distribution schedules year-round.” Regarding the recent water outage in Chlef province, he considered the incident “totally unacceptable” and warned that those responsible would be held fully accountable, warning strongly against “any negligence that leads to such an incident.”
