President Tebboune: Algeria Actively Engages in Numerous Regional Cooperation Projects, Advocates for a New Development Model

Today, in Freetown, the capital of Sierra Leone, Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune emphasized that Algeria, as one of the founding nations of the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD), is deeply involved in various regional cooperation initiatives under this African framework. He highlighted key areas of focus, including human development, agriculture, energy trade, and technology transfer.
In this context, the President detailed Algeria’s commitment to advancing several integration projects. Notable among these is the completion of Algeria’s segment of the Trans-Saharan Highway, which will connect Algeria to Lagos, Nigeria. He also announced the commencement of a road project linking Tindouf in Algeria to Zouerate in Mauritania, an initiative that he stated will “open up significant opportunities for strengthening bilateral relations and achieving regional integration.” Additionally, he pointed out the extension of fiber optics to the borders with Niger and Mauritania, which he asserted “will help bridge the digital divide and improve access to modern information and communication technologies for everyone.”
President Tebboune further confirmed that the Trans-Saharan gas pipeline (TSGP) project has reached an advanced stage of study. He noted that this project “will create promising prospects for transit countries and the entire region, not only by enhancing economic activity and attracting investments but also by improving living conditions for the population and protecting the environment.” These remarks were delivered on his behalf by Prime Minister Nadir Larbaoui at the third high-level African Forum on South-South and Triangular Cooperation, which began today in Freetown.
Additionally, he announced that the fourth edition of the African Continental Free Trade Exhibition (IATF 2025) will be held in Algeria from September 4 to 10, 2025. He described this event as “a significant milestone for African economic actors and business leaders to explore partnership and investment opportunities within the framework of continental economic integration.”
In conclusion, after reaffirming Algeria’s “faith and commitment to African solidarity and its ongoing contributions to strengthening South-South cooperation,” as well as its “dedicated efforts to promote regional, African, and international collaboration to achieve meaningful outcomes and transform them into tangible benefits,” the Algerian President urged participants to seize the opportunity to “create a comprehensive development model that positions the African continent as a truly proactive partner in shaping a fairer and more equitable global system.”
