ALGIERS – On Tuesday, both Abdelaali Hassani Cherif of the Movement of Society for Peace (MSP) and Youcef Aouchiche of the Socialist Forces Front (FSS) lodged appeals with the Constitutional Court regarding the preliminary results of the September 7 presidential election. Both candidates contested the figures announced last Sunday by Mohamed Charfi, the President of the National Independent Authority of Elections (ANIE).
Hassani Cherif, accompanied by his campaign director, Ahmed Sadouk, expressed concerns over what he described as “imprecise” and “inconsistent” figures presented by ANIE. During a press conference on Monday, he highlighted discrepancies between the preliminary results and the vote-counting reports received from ANIE’s provincial delegations. Hassani Cherif indicated his intention to seek redress through the Constitutional Court, emphasizing the need for a thorough review of the reported figures.
Similarly, Youcef Aouchiche filed his appeal with the Constitutional Court on Tuesday, raising concerns about the provisional results. A joint communiqué from the campaign directorates of the three presidential candidates released on Sunday highlighted “imprecisions, contradictions, ambiguities, and inconsistencies” in the reported figures. Both candidates are calling for an official examination of the election results to address these issues.
