Poland Requests UN Security Council Meeting After Drone Violations of Its Airspace

Poland has formally requested a UN Security Council meeting following the violation of its airspace by drones, the South Korean mission to the UN, which currently holds the presidency for September, confirmed. A diplomatic source indicated that the meeting could be held on Friday.
The incident occurred early on September 10, when Poland’s operational command reported destroying several objects identified as drones after they entered Polish airspace. Prime Minister Donald Tusk later stated that the country’s airspace was breached 19 times in the early morning hours, alleging that all drones originated from Belarus. Three drones have been confirmed downed so far. The violations prompted the temporary closure of part of the country’s airspace, including Warsaw’s Chopin Airport. At Poland’s request, NATO invoked Article 4 of the North Atlantic Treaty to initiate consultations among member states.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, Russian forces had carried out strikes on Ukrainian military and industrial facilities in western Ukraine overnight, stressing that no targets in Poland were intended. The ministry noted that the range of the drones allegedly crossing into Poland does not exceed 700 kilometers but added that Moscow is prepared to hold consultations with Polish counterparts regarding the incident.
