Poland Assumes Presidency of the EU Council from Hungary

Poland is set to take over the presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU) on Wednesday for a six-month term, succeeding Hungary. This will be Poland’s second presidency, thirteen years after its first, having joined the EU in 2004.
The Polish government has outlined an “ambitious” agenda, with a primary focus on “implementing priorities centered around security.” A significant challenge for Poland will be addressing irregular immigration. Additional key areas of focus include health, food sovereignty, and climate issues, as highlighted in their announcement.
