Philippines: Fire destroys hundreds of homes in Manila slum

MANILA – Flames and thick black smoke billowed over Manila on Sunday as a fire engulfed hundreds of homes in a slum, according to the city’s fire department.
The fire, which reportedly started on the second floor of one residence, has affected approximately 1,000 homes, with no casualties reported so far.
Drone footage shared by the municipal disaster response agency showed widespread destruction, with homes reduced to ashes.
Around 2,000 families lived in the slum, located in the Isla Puting Bato district.
In response, 36 fire trucks and four firefighting boats were deployed, and the Air Force sent two helicopters to assist in extinguishing the flames.
