Philippines : 23 Dead Due to Habagat, Three Tropical Cyclones

The Philippine Authorities confirmed 23 reported deaths attributed to the habagat and three consecutive tropical cyclones, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Thursday. The NDRRMC report revealed that these weather systems have also resulted in 15 individuals being reported missing and at least 23 people injured. The severe weather has impacted nearly 300,000 families, affecting approximately 1 million individuals.
The habagat, which was intensified by tropical cyclones Ferdine, Gener, and Helen, has caused significant damage, including the destruction of around 1,200 houses. The NDRRMC estimated the cost of damage to infrastructure at approximately PHP 2.4 million. In response, the government has provided around PHP 17.4 million in assistance to affected communities. Additionally, about 600 cities and towns have canceled classes due to the adverse weather conditions.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has forecasted that the habagat will continue to bring moderate to heavy rains in certain areas on Thursday. Each year, the Philippines experiences about 20 major storms and typhoons, which frequently result in casualties and widespread damage.
