MIDRAND – The Pan-African Parliament has strongly condemned the European Parliament’s interference in Algeria’s internal affairs, calling it a violation of international charters that uphold state sovereignty and non-interference in domestic matters.
In a statement, the Pan-African Parliament denounced the European Parliament’s resolution as an “unjustified interference” in Algeria’s sovereign affairs.
It emphasized that Algeria, like other African states, is an independent country with its own institutions, laws, and judicial system, which must be respected by all nations, just as Algeria respects the sovereignty and laws of other countries worldwide.
The Pan-African Parliament expressed full solidarity with the Algerian government and people, urging the European Parliament to refrain from interfering in African countries’ internal affairs and to respect the functioning of their institutions, particularly judicial ones.
The Parliament also regretted that the European Parliament rushed to issue resolutions without consulting its African counterpart, contrary to the agreement made in December 2022, which called for consultation and information exchange before issuing resolutions regarding countries from either continent.
