Palestinian Foreign Ministry condemns occupation’s tank deployment as genocide attempt

The Palestinian Foreign Ministry warned against the deployment of heavy tanks by the occupation army near Jenin, describing it as a step toward escalating aggression and expanding crimes against the Palestinian people, particularly in the northern West Bank and its refugee camps, according to WAFA news agency.

In a statement issued on Sunday evening, the ministry condemned the occupation’s deployment of tanks and the intimidation of defenceless Palestinian civilians, stressing that it constitutes a blatant attempt to enforce a policy of genocide and displacement against an unarmed population, the source said.

It is noteworthy that this escalation is the first of its kind in over 20 years, and part of an intensified military offensive that has displaced 40,000 Palestinians from refugee camps in the northern West Bank.

In this regard, the occupation stated that the tens of thousands of Palestinians who have fled will not be allowed to return to their homes, while troops are set to remain in parts of the territory for an entire year.

The camps are home to descendants of Palestinians who were expelled from their lands by Zionist gangs during the Nakba in 1948.

The Zionist occupation launched a broad offensive on the northern West Bank on Jan. 21—two days after the ceasefire in Gaza took hold—and then expanded it to include other nearby areas.

More than 800 Palestinians have been martyred in the West Bank since the beginning of the Zionist occupation’s genocidal war on Gaza.
