Palestine: China Calls for “Irreversible Measures” In Favor of a Two-State Solution

China stressed that the Palestinian issue must not once again be pushed aside, calling on the international community to take “irreversible measures” to advance the two-state solution and support the rapid establishment of an independent Palestinian state.

Speaking Tuesday at a United Nations Security Council briefing on the Palestinian issue, China’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Fu Cong, said that “the Palestinian issue is deteriorating at an accelerated pace, and the foundations of the two-state solution risk being further eroded.”

He added that “in the face of this serious situation, the international community must demonstrate strong political will and take decisive measures in order to achieve, as soon as possible, a comprehensive, just, and lasting solution to the Palestinian issue.”

In this regard, the Chinese diplomat called for prioritizing human life and immediately ending the suffering of the population in the Gaza Strip.

The situation in the enclave “touches the very foundations of international morality,” he continued, calling in particular on “Israel to fully respect the ceasefire agreement and to achieve a real, comprehensive, and lasting ceasefire.”

He also stressed that “Israel must fulfill its obligations under international humanitarian law, fully open border crossings, lift restrictions on humanitarian access, and cease attacks against humanitarian organizations, particularly the UNRWA,” the Chinese representative concluded.
