Palestine: 53 Attacks on Journalists in March, Two Killed

The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate affirmed that the Zionist occupation forces committed 53 violations against Palestinian journalists during the month of March.

In its monthly report, the Syndicate’s Committee on Freedoms, cited by the Palestinian news agency “WAFA” said that March witnessed the killing of two journalists, namely Amal Shamali, a correspondent for Qatar Radio in the Gaza Strip, who was targeted in a direct strike on her tent, and Marwan Harzallah, a media employee at the Palestinian Broadcasting Corporation (PBC), who died as a result of torture and medical neglect in the Zionist prisons, in a grave violation of the international humanitarian law.

The Syndicate warned of a dangerous and systematic escalation in the targeting of Palestinian journalists by the Zionist forces during March 2026, stressing that these violations form part of an organized policy aimed at silencing the Palestinian voice and undermining press freedom.

The violations included 12 cases of detention and prevention from media coverage, eight (08) cases of direct targeting with tear gas and stun grenades, eight (08) cases of physical assault, seven (07) cases involving the confiscation and destruction of journalistic equipment; six (06) arrests, four (04) raids on journalists’ homes, two (02) cases of verbal threats, two (02) interrogations, one case involving the imposition of financial bail and one case of threat at gunpoint.

The Committee on Freedoms emphasized that the targeting of journalists, including killings, arrests and physical assaults, forms part of an escalating pattern of serious violations that may amount to grave crimes, reflecting the determination of the occupation authorities to prevent independent media coverage, particularly amid the rise in crimes and violations against Palestinian civilians.

The Committee stressed that these crimes constitute a blatant breach of the Geneva Conventions, a direct violation of the principles of international humanitarian law and of international Charters that guarantee the protection of journalists as civilians while carrying out their duties.
