Pakistan Warns of Imminent Indian Strike Amid Escalating Tensions Over Kashmir Attack

ISLAMABAD — Pakistan issued a stark warning on Wednesday, stating that it has “credible intelligence” suggesting India may launch a military strike within the next 24 to 36 hours. The alert follows heightened tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors after a deadly attack on April 22 in Indian-administered Kashmir that left 26 dead.

In a statement posted on X, Pakistani Information Minister Attaullah Tarar accused New Delhi of planning military action under the “pretext of baseless and concocted allegations” linking Pakistan to the assault in the tourist town of Pahalgam. “Pakistan reiterates that any such military adventurism by India would be responded to assuredly and decisively,” Tarar warned, adding that responsibility for any escalation would lie with India.

India, for its part, said the attack had “cross-border” connections, implying Pakistani involvement. Islamabad has firmly denied any role, offered to cooperate with an independent investigation, and expressed concern over New Delhi’s posture.

Following the incident, India unilaterally suspended the Indus Waters Treaty—a water-sharing accord in place since 1960—a move condemned by Pakistan as provocative. Diplomatic ties between the two countries have further deteriorated, with border crossings shut and relations downgraded to their lowest level in years.
