Pakistan: Suicide Attack on Religious School Kills Five, Injures Twenty

ISLAMABAD, February 28, 2025 – Five individuals have died and another twenty have been injured following a suicide bomber’s detonation of explosives inside a religious school located in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, northwest Pakistan, according to local police and rescue officials.
The incident occurred in the Nowshera district. The school’s director, Hamid ul Haq Haqqani, was specifically targeted during the attack and sustained serious injuries from the blast, as reported by Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed to local media.
The bombing unfolded as worshippers gathered for Friday prayers, with the bomber setting off explosives among the crowd, as informed by Abdul Rashid, a district police officer.
Bilal Faizi, spokesperson for the public rescue organization Rescue 1122, reported that twenty injured individuals were transported to the hospital, with the majority in critical condition.
An emergency has been declared at three hospitals within the district, and hospitals in the provincial capital of Peshawar have been placed on high alert.
The area has been cordoned off to facilitate the ongoing investigation. So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
