Pakistan Confirms Role as Mediator in U.S.–Iran Backchannel Talks

Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has confirmed that indirect negotiations between the United States and Iran are currently underway, with Islamabad acting as a key intermediary. The disclosure comes amid growing speculation over diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions in the Middle East.

In a statement posted on the platform X, Dar said that “discussions for peace are taking place through messages relayed via Pakistan,” dismissing what he described as unnecessary media speculation surrounding the talks. His remarks suggest a behind-the-scenes diplomatic channel aimed at managing the ongoing crisis.

According to the Pakistani foreign minister, Washington has conveyed a list of 15 demands to Tehran through Islamabad, which Iran is currently reviewing. While the exact details remain undisclosed, reports indicate the proposal addresses Iran’s nuclear program, missile capabilities, and its regional influence—issues that have long been at the center of tensions between the two sides.
