Overseas Voting Kicks Off Smoothly for Algerian Diaspora

Since their opening at 08:00, polling stations have seen a significant influx of Algerian voters based in different countries, including Europe, who went there to fulfil their national duty. The presidential election started abroad on September 2 and will run until September 7. The Algerian diplomatic and consular authorities have made available, for this operation, all required human and material resources to ensure the election goes smoothly.

Three candidates are running for president in this election, namely Aouchiche Youcef, candidate for the Socialist Forces Front, the independent candidate Abdelmadjid Tebboune, and Hassani Cherif Abdelaali, the candidate of the Movement of Society for Peace.

In Italy, the polling stations at Algeria’s embassy in Rome and the consulates in Milan and Naples have seen, since their opening, a significant influx of the members of the community, especially the young and university students. According to the consul general of Algeria in Milan, Adel Talbi, the vote is being held in good conditions in the 12 polling stations through the Italian territory.

In the south of France, the coordinator of the National Independent Authority for Elections in that region, Djamel Bedra, stressed the interest in the election, given by the national community there, noting that the election campaign, launched on August 15, proceeded under favourable conditions. A total of 62 polling stations have opened in the different towns and cities, in this region, to allow the members of the national community to elect the president of the Republic.

Algeria’s consul general in Marseille, Imed Selatnia, said the opening of other polling stations in the districts of Marseille “has highly contributed to facilitating the voting process for the members of the national community in the south of France.

The polling stations in Alicante and Valence, Spain, opened at 8:00 to receive the voters of the national community, in the presence of seven observers representing the candidates.

The members of the national community in Germany started voting on Monday as 15151 voters are registered in this country, through polling stations in the cities of Berlin, Frankfurt, Bonn, Stuttgart, Munich et Hannover.

In London, Algeria’s consulate general said that everything was set for the beginning of the election at the polling stations in the consulates of London, Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow, Cardiff and Belfast.

In Russia, the voting operation began at a polling station in the embassy of Algeria in Moscow while a second station will be opened Thursday in Saint-Petersburg, and will receive voters until September 7.

Outside Europe, the members of the national community in Tunisia, Lebanon, Egypt and Cyprus have begun fulfilling their national election duty, through different polling stations opened in those countries.
