Over 60,000 Gaza Children Killed or Maimed Since October 7, 2023: UNICEF

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) said Tuesday that in the two years since the start of the Zionist aggression against Gaza, nearly 61,000 children have been killed or maimed.

Speaking at a press briefing in Geneva, UNICEF spokesman Ricardo Pires said that on average, a child had been killed or injured every 17 minutes, calling this figure “unacceptable” and “staggering.” He lamented that children “suffer in their bodies and minds for far too long,” remaining traumatized and “exposed to horrors no child should ever see or live through.”

He added that one in five children in Gaza was born prematurely, yet the territory lacked the infrastructure needed to ensure their survival; in some reports, children were forced to share oxygen masks to stay alive. UNICEF also noted that its teams in Gaza were still awaiting clearance to retrieve incubators and ventilators for premature infants evacuated from the north of the enclave.
