Over 24 killed in Pakistan train station bomb blast, police say

QUETTA – An explosion killed at least 24 people on Saturday at the main train station in Balochistan, according to local police and medical officials.

Inspector general of police for Balochistan, Mouzzam Jah Ansari, said 24 people have died so far from the blast at the railway station, which is usually busy early in the day.

Dr. Wasim Baig, spokesperson for the Sandeman Regional Hospital in Quetta, reported that 44 people had been injured in the blast.

Senior Superintendent of Police Operations, Muhammad Baloch, suggested that the blast appeared to be the result of a suicide bomb and said investigations are ongoing to gather further details.

The explosion occurred at around 8:45 AM at the central station in Quetta, the capital of Balochistan, which borders both Afghanistan and Iran.
