Over 1.89 Million Displaced as Typhoon Ragasa Hits China’s Guangdong

More than 1.89 million people have been evacuated across southern China’s Guangdong province after Typhoon Ragasa made landfall on Wednesday, local authorities said.

Ragasa, the 18th typhoon of the year, slammed into Hailing Island in the coastal city of Yangjiang with maximum winds near its center reaching 40 meters per second.

The storm is expected to continue moving west at around 20 kilometers per hour while gradually weakening, according to meteorological officials.
