One Dead, Two Missing as 200-Meter Suspension Bridge Collapses in Ecuador

At least one person was killed, and two others remain missing after a 200-meter-long suspension bridge collapsed in Ecuador, authorities announced on Thursday.
The National Risk Management Service reported that four trucks, a car, and two motorcycles plunged into the water when the bridge collapsed in the village of Daule, about 50 kilometers north of the port city of Guayaquil.
At one end of the bridge, a truck trailer carrying corn overturned after hitting one of the support pillars.
Guayas province governor Marcela Aguiñaga stated on social media platform X that “preliminary findings indicate the bridge was overloaded.”
She added that several trucks were crossing the structure when it gave way.
The collapse occurred amid Ecuador’s ongoing heavy rainy season, which has already led to deadly floods and landslides.
So far, at least 20 people have died, and 45 bridges have been damaged across the country due to the extreme weather, according to risk management authorities.
