Niger’s President: We are convinced that an important chapter in the history of the Sahel and Africa is being written today

The President of the Republic of Niger, Head of State, Abdourahmane Tiani, said on Monday that an important chapter in the history of the Sahel and Africa is being written today, and that each country will choose its position based on its convictions, interests, and the values it upholds.

In a joint media statement with Algerian President, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, President Tiani expressed pride in the strong historical ties between the peoples of the two countries, and the shared determination to give new momentum to the fraternal cooperation and good-neighborly relations.

He added that Algeria’s stance in support of respecting Niger’s sovereignty and its internal political choices is an honorable stance by the government and the great Algerian people.

“Our presence today reflects the importance we attach to strengthening the bonds of brotherhood and bilateral cooperation between our two peoples, our two governments, and our two countries,” the Nigerien President said.

He also emphasized that “no African can imagine that Algeria, having endured more than a century of the ravages of colonialism, could allow its territory to be used to attack a brotherly African state.”

“We are convinced that an important chapter in the history of the Sahel and Africa is being written today, and that each country will choose its position based on its convictions, interests, and the values it upholds,” President, Abdourahmane Tiani, said.
