Nigeria: At Least 48 Dead in Village Attacks

A series of attacks on villages in central Nigeria resulted in the deaths of at least 48 people on Wednesday, according to a new toll released on Friday by local authorities and the Red Cross.

“We buried over 30 individuals yesterday,” said Farmasum Fuddang, a local government official from Plateau State, confirming that a total of 48 bodies have been recovered following the attacks.

A Red Cross representative noted that the death toll “exceeds 40, mostly among women and children.”

Earlier reports had indicated ten fatalities.

Ethnic violence is common in Plateau State and is often exacerbated by land disputes between herders and farmers.
