Over the past 48 hours, Nigerien air forces have “neutralized” at least 18 terrorists, injured many others, and destroyed military transport equipment in the Abala area of the Tillabéry region (west), according to a military report released on Wednesday.
“These decisive actions, both on the ground and in the air, underscore the unwavering commitment of the Nigerien Defense and Security Forces (FDS) to combat terrorism and their determination to protect civilian populations, their livelihoods, and the integrity of national territory,” the report stated.
The Abala sector is part of the “three borders” region (Niger-Mali-Burkina Faso), which has become a new hotspot for insecurity in the extreme southwest of the country, a situation that has worsened in recent years due to the activities of various terrorist groups.
