Nicaragua Reaffirms Support for Sahrawi People’s Right to Self-Determination

Nicaraguan Foreign Minister Valdrack Jaentschke reaffirmed his country’s steadfast support for the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination and independence during a ceremony held at the Nicaraguan Foreign Ministry, according to a press release from the Sahrawi Republic’s embassy in Nicaragua.

The minister extended greetings from President Daniel Ortega and Vice President Rosario Murillo to the President and Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, Brahim Ghali, marking the 52nd anniversary of the Polisario Front’s founding and the beginning of the armed struggle for liberation. The event was attended by National Assembly President Dr. Gustavo Porras, Sahrawi Ambassador Ouali Aali Salem Mahfoud, members of the diplomatic corps, the Sahrawi-Nicaraguan Parliamentary Friendship Group, and media representatives.

Sahrawi Ambassador Mahfoud emphasized the historical importance of the anniversary in the Sahrawi people’s ongoing quest for independence. He condemned the human rights violations perpetrated by the Moroccan occupation authorities against Sahrawi political prisoners and urged the international community to intervene for their immediate release.
