New Zealand Imposes New Sanctions on Russia and North Korea, Boosts Support for Ukraine

New Zealand has announced a new package of sanctions targeting Russian and North Korean entities, alongside additional support for Ukraine’s recovery, as the Ukrainian crisis enters its fourth year.

Foreign Minister Winston Peters stated that the sanctions apply to 52 individuals and entities linked to Russia’s military-industrial complex, energy sector, and North Korea’s assistance to Russia’s war efforts.

In addition, New Zealand pledged $3 million to the Ukraine Relief, Recovery, Reconstruction, and Reform Trust Fund, managed by the World Bank. This contribution comes as the UN Humanitarian Office reports that 12.7 million Ukrainians—36% of the country’s population—will need urgent humanitarian aid in 2025. To date, New Zealand has sanctioned over 1,800 individuals and entities, primarily from Russia.
