New Arrest Warrant Issued for Former South Korean President

A South Korean court has issued a new arrest warrant for former President Yoon Suk-yeol over his failed attempt to impose martial law in December 2024, according to Yonhap news agency.

Judge Nam Si-jin from the Central District Court in Seoul cited concerns that Yoon might destroy evidence, ordering pre-trial detention for the second time.

Yoon, who was officially removed from office in April after deploying military forces to the parliament on December 3, had previously been detained in January but released after his arrest warrant was revoked.

Yoon and his legal team attended the hearing and denied the charges. He was taken into custody pending the court’s final decision. A special committee investigating the martial law declaration had renewed its request for his arrest on Sunday after a nine-hour interrogation on Saturday.
