NEPAD, Algeria : Advancing African Integration and Regional Cooperation

ADRAR- The importance of the NEPAD mechanism (New Partnership for Africa’s Development) in strengthening cooperation and economic integration between African countries was highlighted on Wednesday, in Adrar, during a seminar entitled “NEPAD and Algeria, opportunities and challenges.”

Organized at “Ahmed Draya” university, at the initiative of the faculty of law and political sciences, the meeting was an opportunity for speakers to emphasize that NEPAD “is a mechanism likely to strengthen cooperation and economic complementarity between African countries and make it possible to benefit from training programs, skills development, as well as strengthening security and stability in border regions.”

The current challenges faced by NEPAD, with current geopolitical issues and Algeria’s preeminent mission in consolidating collective African action, were also highlighted by participants, researchers and academics who took part in this meeting, organized with the assistance of the laboratory of law and local development.

Speaking in this regard, Prof. Zoubir Ramdane, president of the colloquium, indicated that this meeting focuses on examining the duality between opportunities and challenges of collective African action of NEPAD member countries, through the development of appropriate infrastructures in various vital sectors for further rapprochement of Algeria with its African environment.

In this respect, the speaker underscored that the opportunities offered by NEPAD consist in shaping strategic economic projects likely to strengthen Algeria’s relations with its African depth.”
