Mystery Flu-like Disease Claims Nearly 150 Lives in Southwestern Congo

Health officials in Congo have raised alarms after an unknown disease with flu-like symptoms has killed nearly 150 people in the Panzi health zone of Kwango province. The deaths, recorded between November 10 and November 25, have left health authorities scrambling to identify the disease.

Symptoms reported include high fever, severe headache, cough, and anaemia. Many victims have died in their homes, unable to receive treatment due to a lack of medical resources.

A medical team has been sent to collect samples and analyze the disease’s origins. Health officials have urged the public to avoid contact with deceased individuals to prevent further contamination.

Local leaders are calling for increased medical supplies, as the situation grows more critical, with women and children being the most affected. The World Health Organization (WHO) has been alerted and is working with local authorities to address the crisis.
