Myanmar: Typhoon Yagi Death Toll Rises to 268, with 88 Missing

A new report released by authorities on Thursday reveals that the death toll from Typhoon Yagi in Myanmar has risen to 268.

The typhoon has caused massive flooding, inundating approximately 270,000 hectares of rice fields and other crops, while also resulting in the loss of over 100,000 farm animals.

Previously, the reported figures indicated 226 fatalities and 77 individuals still missing.

Super Typhoon Yagi has unleashed unprecedented flooding and landslides across Asia, marking one of the most devastating disasters in decades. It initially impacted the Philippines and southern China in early September, claiming at least 24 lives and injuring dozens more. The typhoon’s devastation has led to a total of 588 deaths across four countries: 299 in Vietnam, the hardest-hit nation; 268 in Myanmar; 20 in Thailand; and one in Laos, according to data from each country.

The United Nations estimates that around 630,000 people may require assistance as a result of the aftermath of Typhoon Yagi.
