Myanmar: 17 Dead in Floods Caused by Typhoon Yagi

Flooding resulting from Typhoon Yagi, which has devastated Southeast Asia, has claimed the lives of 17 individuals in Myanmar, as announced by the country’s fire department on Thursday.
Rescue teams and firefighters have recovered seven bodies from submerged villages in the Mandalay region of northern Myanmar, according to a post made by the fire service on its Facebook page. This figure adds to the ten bodies discovered in the same area on Wednesday.
Burmese authorities have established approximately fifty camps to provide shelter for tens of thousands of people affected by the floods, reported Lay Shwe Zin Oo, director of the Ministry of Social Affairs, Relief, and Resettlement.
Rail connections between Rangoon and Mandalay have been suspended due to the flooding, as stated by the Global New Light of Myanmar, the state-run newspaper.
Yagi struck Vietnam last weekend, bringing torrential rains that inundated much of the northern region of the country. Following this, strong winds affected Laos, Thailand, and Myanmar, causing deadly landslides and rising waters in several rivers.
