MSF Warns of Humanitarian Disaster in Gaza Amid Harsh Cold, Ongoing Attacks

Doctors Without Borders (MSF) organization warned of a sharp deterioration in humanitarian conditions in the Gaza Strip, amid the severe weather conditions and the continued Zionist attacks.

Hunter McGovern, MSF’s Gaza project coordinator, said Wednesday that the enclave is experiencing harsh winter weather, noting that large numbers of residents are living in makeshift plastic shelters.

He said that those not living in these shelters are living in old tents, severely damaged due to strong winds and rain, highlighting that Palestinians in Gaza have been living in these tents for a long period and have been forced to move them several times due to winter weather and flooding.

McGovern stressed that children, as well as adults are dying in Gaza from extreme cold, asserting that the term “disaster” falls short to describe the true scale of the tragedy.

The Zionist attacks are still occurring regularly, alongside the Occupation’s ban on the activities of several international civil society organizations operating in Gaza, he said, pointing out that entire Palestinian families are surviving under a limited number of blankets.

The NGO’s project coordinator said that the MSF’s project in Gaza includes around 2,900 patients, emphasizing that the MSF is listed among the organizations to be banned, noting that these patients are heavily relying on the MSF’s medical services, and that the relief organizations’ support remain insufficient.

The occupation authorities continue the blockade on the entry of adequate quantities of food, medicine, medical supplies, relief aid, and shelter materials into Gaza, home to 1.5 million displaced people out of total population of around 2.4 million Palestinians living in the besieged enclave for over 18 years.
