Mpox: Malaysia reports the first case of infection

KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia’s Ministry of Health announced Tuesday the country’s first case of monkeypox for the year 2024.
The ministry reported that the case involved a Malaysian citizen who had not travelled abroad recently. The individual showed symptoms including fever, sore throat, and cough, followed by a skin rash.
The network noted that Malaysia has recorded 10 cases of monkeypox since July 2023, with 9 of these cases occurring in 2023.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared mpox a global health emergency, noting that the new strain is more virulent due to its deadliness and high transmissibility.
