Mozambique’s top court confirms victory of ruling party

MAPUTO – Mozambique’s top court on Monday confirmed the ruling party Frelimo’s victory in an October election which has sparked massive protests by opposition groups.

Provisional results from the electoral commission showed Frelimo’s Daniel Chapo winning the presidency by a landslide, while the party also expanded its majority in parliament.

Outgoing Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi announced on Saturday that he would transfer power to the elected president, Daniel Chapo, in January 2025, and affirmed that he would not declare a state of emergency.
