Daniel Francisco Chapo was sworn in as the President of Mozambique on Wednesday during a ceremony held in Maputo. The event was attended by Laïd Rebiga, Algeria’s Minister of Mujahideen and Rights Holders, who represented President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.

At Independence Square in Maputo, Chapo, the leader of the ruling party in this southern African nation, committed to “faithfully fulfill the duties of President of the Republic” for the next five years.

“I, Daniel Francisco Chapo, solemnly swear on my honor to respect and uphold the Constitution and to faithfully execute the responsibilities of the President of the Republic of Mozambique,” he declared during the inauguration ceremony, which was attended by heads of state from across Africa and foreign diplomats.
