Mostaganem, Tifariti Universities Sign Cooperation Agreement

The “Abdelhamid Ibn Badis” University of Mostaganem in Western Algeria, has formalized a cooperation and exchange agreement with Tifariti University of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), as announced in a statement from the rectorate of Mostaganem University on Thursday.

The statement indicated that the signing occurred during the visit of Moulay Amhamed Ibrahim, the central director of higher education and dean of Tifariti University, to Abdelhamid Ibn Badis University of Mostaganem on Wednesday.

The ceremony was attended by Khatri Ahmoudi, the cultural attaché of the Embassy of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic in Algiers, along with members of the university community and representatives of Sahrawi students. This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to enhance scientific and academic cooperation and strengthen international relations between Mostaganem University and global institutions, the source reported.

In his welcoming address, Boudrah Brahim, Director of Mostaganem University, reaffirmed Algeria’s unwavering commitment to supporting the Sahrawi people in their pursuit of full and unassailable rights. He emphasized the importance of providing all necessary resources and opportunities for Sahrawi students seeking to continue their higher education in Algeria.

According to Boudrah, the supervising ministry is dedicated to creating favorable conditions for Sahrawi students to thrive academically, particularly in terms of educational programs and ensuring equal opportunities at all levels of education—from undergraduate to postgraduate studies—for both Algerian and Sahrawi students.

In this context, Mostaganem University has resolved to offer free language instruction to Sahrawi students at the university’s Intensive Language Teaching Center (CEIL). This initiative aims to empower them to articulate their concerns and raise awareness of their cause among friendly nations, Boudrah added.

He further highlighted Tifariti University’s commitment to supporting Sahrawi students through various educational and academic resources, as well as expanding collaboration in research, training, and qualification under the new agreement.

In response, Moulay Amhamed Ibrahim expressed deep gratitude and appreciation to Algeria, its people, and government for their solidarity and support of the Sahrawi cause. He articulated that the Sahrawi people draw strength and resilience from the legacy of the great Algerian Revolution, which illustrated to the world that freedom must be actively pursued rather than passively bestowed. He also conveyed his appreciation for the accommodations provided for Sahrawi students in university residences and the high-quality academic and scientific environment available in Algeria.
