Morocco Continues to Fuel Zionist Genocidal Machine Against Palestinians via Its Ports

LONDON – According to an investigation by Middle East Eye (MEE), Morocco has been facilitating the transfer of military equipment to the Zionist military through its ports, despite public protests. MEE’s report, titled “Fuelling the ‘machinery of genocide’: Morocco’s backdoor support for Israel’s war on Gaza”, documents that container‑shipping giant Maersk regularly transports arms components—including parts for F‑35 fighter jets—through Moroccan terminals, ultimately bound for Haifa and the Nevatim airbase, from which bombardments on Gaza are launched.
MEE draws on research from Declassified UK and Ireland’s The Ditch to trace one April shipment: after departing Houston on the Maersk Detroit, the cargo transferred at Tangier Med onto the Nexoe Maersk, crossed the Mediterranean, and reached Haifa. The revelation sparked mass protests at Casablanca and Tangier Med ports and prompted at least eight dockworkers to resign in protest. Observers say Moroccan docks have become a preferred trans‑shipment hub for Israeli arms ever since two Maersk shipments were blocked from docking in Spain last November.
Analysts highlight Morocco’s deep military ties with the Zionist entity—illustrated by Rabat’s recent selection of a Zionist arms manufacturer as a key supplier—and warn that activism for Palestine is increasingly stifled at home. Despite widespread demonstrations against normalization and allegations of complicity in Gaza’s “genocide,” Morocco’s policy remains unchanged, say activists: “Twenty pro‑Palestinian campaigners have been arrested and jailed since 2021,” and arrests have surged since October 2023.
