Montpellier Celebrates Algerian Music at the Opening of the 10th Al Andalus International Festival

The city of Montpellier in France resonated with the sounds of Arab-Andalusian music during the opening night of the 10th edition of the Al-Andalus International Festival, held on April 1 at the Opéra Comédie.

According to a statement from the Algerian Consulate in Montpellier, the event was inaugurated by the Junior Arab-Andalusian Orchestra of Montpellier, conducted by Rabie Houti. Their performance, marked by finesse and emotion, highlighted the new generation of musicians and reaffirmed the vitality of this musical tradition.

The evening was further elevated by Andalusian singer Manal Gherbi, a versatile author, composer, and musician. Accompanied by her ensemble, she delivered an intense and emotive performance that was warmly received by the audience.

The festival continues until April 11, 2026, with a rich program including concerts, exhibitions, workshops, and conferences. These events provide a space for cultural exchange around Algerian artistic heritage and contribute to the preservation of Arab-Andalusian music, a major concern for the transmission of this cultural patrimony.

This now-essential festival is part of an intercultural dialogue initiative and contributes to promoting Algerian artistic presence abroad.
