Monsoon in Pakistan: Rescue Helicopter Crashes, Five Dead

A Pakistani rescue helicopter crashed on Friday while responding to areas affected by mudslides caused by monsoon rains, which have resulted in 164 fatalities in the northern region of the country, according to the provincial government chief.

“All five crew members, including two pilots, were killed,” said Ali Amin Gandapur, the chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, which borders Afghanistan and has reported 150 deaths directly linked to the rains.

The torrential downpours affecting northern Pakistan have claimed at least 164 lives in just 24 hours, according to the latest reports from authorities, bringing the total death toll to nearly 500 since the onset of the monsoon season at the end of June.
